How to use this calculator
- Align your Nevada card with the employer’s fixed workweek, rather than the date you receive your paycheck.
- Enter actual in/out punches and unpaid minutes. Keep paid time in worked hours and avoid deducting a punched-out meal twice.
- Enter the regular rate and verify the minimum-wage input. Use the 4×10 switch only when the mutual schedule agreement applies.
Formula
Daily overtime applies above eight hours when the rate is less than 1.5 × $12 = $18; at $18 or above, use only the weekly forty-hour trigger. The mutual 4×10 agreement can turn off daily overtime. Allocate daily premiums first and move remaining regular minutes above forty weekly hours to overtime without double counting.
Worked examples
Nevada: 4 shifts at $24
Schedule: 9:18 + 9:18 + 9:18 + 9:18 of net worked time. The engine calculates 37:12 (37.20 hours).
Regular: 37:12 (37.20 h); overtime: 0:00 (0.00 h); double time: 0:00 (0.00 h). At $24.00 per hour, estimated gross pay is $892.80.
Nevada: five longer shifts at $17
Schedule: 10:00 + 10:00 + 10:00 + 10:00 + 10:00 of net worked time. The engine calculates 50:00 (50.00 hours).
Regular: 40:00 (40.00 h); overtime: 10:00 (10.00 h); double time: 0:00 (0.00 h). At $17.00 per hour, estimated gross pay is $935.00.
The strict below-$18 boundary
Nevada’s verified minimum is $12 per hour. The daily overtime trigger applies to employees paid less than one and a half times that amount. A $17.99 rate can activate daily overtime after eight hours, while exactly $18.00 does not. Weekly overtime above forty hours remains relevant at and above that boundary. The card exposes the minimum-wage value for checking; changing it changes the rate cutoff used by the engine.
Workday and schedule limits
The verified Nevada daily rule refers to a twenty-four-hour workday. This card groups shifts on the day they start rather than examining every possible rolling window. A mutual agreement for four scheduled ten-hour days can waive the daily trigger. Exemptions include executive, administrative, professional, collective-bargaining, and motor-carrier situations; this estimate does not determine eligibility. Review the official bulletin and NRS source before relying on a schedule exception. Not legal advice.
Frequently asked questions
Does this calculate every Nevada overtime rule?
It models the verified daily rate trigger, weekly forty-hour threshold, and 4×10 switch. Eligibility, exemptions, and rolling workday issues need separate review.
Does exactly $18 trigger daily overtime?
No. The verified test is strictly less than $18 at the $12 minimum. At exactly $18, this preset applies weekly overtime only.
How are two-week records handled?
Use the biweekly tool for fourteen days. It calculates two independent seven-day weeks and sums their allocated totals, so overtime in a longer week is not canceled by a shorter week.
Does the estimate include taxes or benefit deductions?
No. Gross pay uses the single entered rate and calculated hour buckets. The separate qualified-overtime deduction tool addresses only its verified federal deduction model.
