Times such as 915, 9.15am, 9:15 PM, and 21:15 work. A shift ending earlier than it starts is treated as overnight. Shifts belong to the day they start.

How to use this calculator

  1. Copy the first in and last out time from your record.
  2. Add separate segments for time away, or enter a single unpaid deduction if you did not punch out.
  3. Compare every daily total with the source record before relying on the weekly sum.

Formula

For each recorded segment, subtract the in time from the out time, adding twenty-four hours if the segment crosses midnight. Add segment minutes and remove additional unpaid break minutes. Worked hours = resulting minutes ÷ sixty.

Worked examples

A short day followed by three full days

Schedule: 5:15 + 8:00 + 8:00 + 8:00 of net worked time. The engine calculates 29:15 (29.25 hours).

Regular: 29:15 (29.25 h); overtime: 0:00 (0.00 h); double time: 0:00 (0.00 h). At $24.00 per hour, estimated gross pay is $702.00.

Reconcile a missing or surprising total

Check one day at a time when your hours-worked result differs from a pay stub. A mistyped afternoon time can turn a short shift into an overnight shift, while an unrecorded lunch can make a day too long. The calculator does not know whether a missing punch represents an absence or forgotten entry. Use the original time-clock record and any correction notes to establish the input, then let the tool handle the arithmetic.

Keep paid time and unpaid gaps separate

This card totals the segments you enter. An interval between two pairs is not included in worked time. The separate break field removes more minutes from that total, so reserve it for unpaid time still contained within a punch span. For example, an 08:00–12:00 segment followed by 12:30–17:00 already leaves out thirty minutes. Adding thirty in the break field would reduce that day a second time.

Keep corrections traceable

When you correct an entry, note the source of the replacement time outside this calculator. A recollection, a supervisor correction, and a device timestamp are different kinds of evidence even when they produce the same total. The tool has no attendance verification or approval history. Its role is to make the minute arithmetic visible after you establish the inputs. A dated export alongside the original punches gives you a clearer basis for a later discussion.

Frequently asked questions

Can this prove my employer owes additional pay?

It can organize your arithmetic and export a comparison record. It cannot establish missing facts, employee classification, or the applicable legal treatment of disputed time. Preserve the records behind your inputs.

Why is a blank row zero hours?

Incomplete punch pairs contribute zero minutes rather than guessing the missing time. Supply both endpoints to include a segment, and check for forgotten entries before exporting your week.

What if my shift finishes after midnight?

Enter the actual end time even when its clock value is earlier. The tool rolls the out punch into the next day and assigns the shift to its starting day for this estimate.
