How to use this calculator
- Copy each in and out value from the time clock.
- Add a second pair when the record includes a punched-out lunch or split shift.
- Check the break deduction and selected workweek before exporting daily totals.
Formula
Clocked minutes = sum of paired clock-out minus clock-in values. Unpaid minutes still included in those spans are deducted once. The remaining minutes feed the overtime allocation and optional single-rate gross-pay estimate.
Worked examples
A 7-hour-45-minute clocked day
Schedule: 7:45 of net worked time. The engine calculates 7:45 (7.75 hours).
Regular: 7:45 (7.75 h); overtime: 0:00 (0.00 h); double time: 0:00 (0.00 h). At $24.00 per hour, estimated gross pay is $186.00.
From punch records to a checked total
A time clock records events; a calculated card pairs those events into intervals. Missing or duplicated punches need attention before the total can be trusted. An extra pair can accidentally add the same work twice, while a missing endpoint contributes no duration here. Review the row against the source device record rather than filling a gap with a guessed time. The calculator is most useful after you have established which punches belong together.
Export a reconciliation record
The CSV contains daily time totals suitable for a spreadsheet comparison. Use the H:MM values to check elapsed time and the decimal values for numeric hour fields. A summary PDF gives you the combined regular, overtime, double-time, and gross amounts. Neither output replaces the underlying clock log. If your payroll system applies additional rounding, compare exact entered minutes first so you can distinguish an input mismatch from a display or rounding difference.
Check paired events in order
Read the source log chronologically before transferring a day. An in event followed by an out event forms one segment; another in event starts a new segment after the intervening gap. Do not join a morning start with a later finish while also entering the afternoon as an additional segment. That would count the afternoon twice. If your clock log includes corrections, use the final approved pairings and preserve the original correction details separately.
Frequently asked questions
Does this connect to a physical time clock?
No. Enter or copy the punches you want to check. The tool calculates locally and does not import a device account or verify attendance.
Can I subtract lunch without another punch pair?
Yes. Enter unpaid lunch minutes in the break column when lunch remains inside the in/out span. For a lunch already punched out, leave that deduction at zero.
Are the results automatically sent to payroll?
No. Download or print the result yourself if you need a review record. The current draft stays in this browser’s localStorage, separated by calculator preset.
